In this session we would like to set up a basic GIS of Amsterdam together, in order for historians to have a basic GIS with commonly used data available as a basis for spatial research. We have a few spatial data sets available (cinemas, shops, theatres from the last few centuries and some maps), but you’re welcome to bring your own of course. Those unfamiliar with GIS applications can set up the easier data sets while those experienced in working with spatial data can import the more difficult data sets.
We’ve got some 500 vanished Amsterdam buildings in the Verdwenen Gebouwen dataset. Most of them with a point geometry, but there are polygons as well (see www.verdwenengebouwen.nl/kaart#q=&type=&latminmax=%5B52.36714261803309%2C52.36878034293678%5D&lonminmax=%5B4.899188876152039%2C4.903212189674377%5D&inbbox=1 ). Most buildings are linked to depictions in the Stadsarchief Beeldbank.
BAG buildings might be interesting because of their building years.
Also, i’ve got a list of ± 1400 buildings depicted in the Stadsarchief Beeldbank, most not linked yet to either BAG or Verdwenen Gebouwen.
O, and to spark THATcamp ambitions i registered amsterdamtimemachine.nl 😉
