I trained in linguistics initially and then gradually moved sideways into computer science and computational linguistics. I have worked for ten years or so in research IT support and training, largely focused on teaching software, software development and computational statistics to students in the natural and social sciences, and recently in developing work flows and tool chains for computational research. I have recently begun to look at what we could do for humanities researchers and particularly how we could find out what they are doing themselves to use technology effectively and what we can learn from it.
